Ajaccio, Corsica, France
AJACCIO  is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte and the cultural and political capital of the island of Corsica.
Ship docked at Tino Rossi Port at 11:00. Short walk along the harbor front to the Information office. They said there was no HopOnHopOff Bus, (but there was a double decker bus that we didn't see until much later; it was right there at the end of the dock walk)
PLACE MARECHAL FOCH -- pretty tree-lined square and marketplace with the statue of Napoleon wearing a Roman toga above a fountain of lions.
PETITE TRAIN 1.5 hours  Nice way to see the town.
First stop at Austerlitz (Casone) Square with the many steps leading up to a statue of Napoleon wearing a riding coat and his famed two-cornered hat.
Delightful drive along the Coastal Road to the end with views of the Sanguinaires ("Blood Islands" because of their color at sunset). Stopped here for about 15 minutes. Walked along paths admiring the views.
Then through Old Town's streets with narration about the main sights: Citadel, Cathedral, Napoleon's House. Back to Foch Square. Walked along Citadel toward the church.
Stopped at a restaurant around 1:00 but it was closing. Went to another place. They would not let us share a salad; nothing in English, very slow service, waitress not friendly or helpful so we left. Certainly not welcoming like in Greece and Italy. Would not come back here again. Hungry so went back to ship for a burger and panini at the Grill.
