Using the Train to see the other villages.
MONTEROSSO
The largest of the five villages, and the only one with sandy beaches. Train station is across from the middle of the town. North is the beach area. South, the old part of town. Hurray, a flat walk! Headed along the seafront promenade to the north beach area.
Could hardly see the sand with all the people and the colorful beach umbrellas. Walked to the far end by Circolo Velico
Huge rain cloud, then the rain started.
Il Gigante Beach Bar: sat under their umbrella-covered tables and waited until they opened at noon. Enjoyed the very large salads, strawberries, and ice cream.

Walked back to see the south end.
Old Town: Torre Aurora ("the tower of dawn"), is a well preserved (16th century) defensive watchtower; now it's private property. Located under the Hill of the Cappuccini, it separates the ancient village from the modern one.

RIOMAGGIORE
From train station, interesting walk through a pedestrian tunnel with interesting murals made of tile. The railway line splits the village.
Main street is in upper part and a workout to explore with the steep roads and steps. We did the lower part and headed for the harbor.
Really neat the way the houses tower on both sides of the street leading down to the harbor, which is surrounded by large rock outcropping and cliffs.

MANAROLA
Oldest of the five villages. Walked through town down to the harbor. Nice walkway to the iconic Photo Spot of pastel houses perched on a cliff, fishing boats in a small harbor, and the blue sea.
From the harbor, walked the Trail that goes around the headland for another fantastic view.

The dramatic scenery of Cinque Terra's five small coastal villages was unlike anywhere else we've traveled. Each one is a beauty, with pastel buildings and sparkling sea views, but each has its own different character. Incredible place especially if you like to hike and walk. The best of the scenery was from the Cinque Terre trail high above the ocean viewing the tiny, local village surrounded by the lush green of vineyards and olive groves.
