Samara
Crossing
the Nicoya Peninsula
so
we are finally at “sea level” we still have to cross the whole
Nicoya Peninsula...
Playa
Carillo
they
say it is one of the nicest beaches on the Nicoya Peninsula. And when
we arrived we saw the huge palm trees – perfect parking underneath
the palm trees. And then you walk out on the endless white beach of
sand in a cresent shape... and at the ned of the bay some huge granit
rocks. It locks super amazing... and when looking up and down the
beach there are nearly no people around.
So
after such a long drive we change the cloth and then up into the
water to cool off!!! it was awesome. During Paul relaxes in the sand
– Gine goes to the Granit rocks to check them out... it is total
fun to walk along there – see the sand, the rockformations and
always having that amazing view back towards the main beach with the
palm trees and on the other side those nice little hills. By the way we think that was the nicest beach we visited in Costa Rica.
There
are several pelicans around looking for food and it is a lot of fun
to watch them flying and circling and then diving into the water.
And
back in the water – this beach is perfect for swimming.... and 3
hours later we decided we need a short break and so we went to:
Casa
Amarilla
ok
finding it and parking was no problem – how to go in??? good thing
we have a phone so we call Kate and a little while later she comes.
And there we have our little room right near the pool: that means
first underneath the outdoor shower and then into the cold (yes that
water is cold) pool. Then it is time for a coffee and some relaxing
on the lounge chairs at the pool nicely in the shade. A funky
squirrel with long bushy tail came by and then we decided it’s time
again for the beach:
Sunset
at Playa Samara
this
town is tiny and full of tourists – souvenir shops – restaurants
and shops where you can book And then we saw the best sign: a webpage you can go if you want to get something bought and delivered to you from San Jose - guess that tells you how far out of the way we are.
5 Min later we are at the
beach – is that ever busy – one surf shop near the next – lots
of people everywhere... so we set up a spot and watch the people...
then Gine needs to go in the water: you can’t be at that beach and
not go in the water right!!!
Then
Gine decides to jog along the water... which worked out great in one
direction and on the way back a dog jumped up and started biting...
Gine went back towards the water and the dog kept coming and
biting... finally some guy came and the dog let go... by that time
Gine had 2 bites – luckily not too large and what was the dog
owners response after he came back with his surf board: “this is my
country – it is your problem if you get bitten, the dog only wants
to play” - guess not all people here are nice people.
The
sun goes down and we go back... I think I have already enough from
Samara Beach... good think we continue on tomorrow
Super
with the locals
big
question like every day: what should we have for supper... so we
checked trip advisor and after Paul read: locally owned and home
cooked he was sold. And as we read the meals are huge – so we
decided we will split one. In the car and out of tourist Samara and
into where the locals live Samara. Without GPS we would have never
ended up here. They don’t speak English – but luckily the menu is
in English and instead of water and pop – today we had fruit juice:
Papaya and pine apple.
It
was yummy
a
perfect evening outside near the pool
it
is still nice and warm – not as humid – and with a slightly cool
breeze: perfect to sit outside near the pool and enjoy the warm
evening. That is how we like life.
