TAVIRA
The Golden Cabanas Tavira
And as we head further south:
the sun came out more – only a quick stop at Aldi and we are at the Golden
Cabanas. With an reception and then to our building L and up on the 3rd
floor: it is kind of a hotel with apartments and also privately owned
apartments. We got our pink wristbands – and now we can go into the pools,
so use the boat over to the main beach.
Ok first things first: unpacking
– coffee and let’s check out the internet: ok so what is the wifi password – we
couldn’t find it and we didn’t had it. We try to text, but with out data off it
didn’t work. So back to the reception he called our host, who said he will text
us, but guess what we still don’t have data to receive it. So we went to the
hotel and asked for a wifi card, after we explained to them what is going on,
he was extremely helpful and let us use his phone and then even talked to our
host, and got us the password: no the world is perfect again.
Now we can sit in the sun and
have coffee before checking out the grounds: we walk to the beach area – check
out the pools: and with the sun out, we get excited to soak hopefully some sun
tomorrow.
Supper along the boardwalk
Not far away is a boardwalk
along the rio Formosa nature park – with lots of little restaurants and bars
along – this is great for ending our celebration that we are finally at the
sunny beach. Welcome to the Algarve.
A sunny breakfast
I mean if you wake up because
the sun shines in your face – isn’t that perfect. We are super happy – no more
dust – clear blue sky. And the next best is too have breakfast on our balcony
in the sunshine with view on the ocean.
A sunny morning in Tavira
We decided to go in the morning
and check out Tavira:
- Years ago Tavira was the largest town on the Algarve and an important base for the Portuguese Adventures in Africa
- The Moors began to built the castle and walls in the 10th century – King Alfonso continued to enforce it, it enclosed 5 hectares: showing how important the city was at one time
- It declined after the harbour silte, the plaque in 1645 and the earthquake in 1755
After picking up our “supper”
for tonight in the supermarket, we found a free parking spot, which is cool as
most of it is paid parking. We then walked along the river: first where the
fishing boats are and then we entered
the riverside park which
is really beautiful: lots of different kind of palm trees and flowers… really
beautiful. Until we reached the Roman Bridge (which is actually a
Moorish). We had to walk over this cute arched bridge to enjoy the views – as
we didn’t want to spend too much time in town, we skipped all the tourist shops
on the other side. Here they also had everywhere the yellow-blue ties to
remember the people in the Ukraine.
Crossing the Praca Republica:
yes here it also cobble stone and white washed houses – you can see clearly on
how it was made nicely for all the tourists : we also saw a monument when Gine
later read that it is a WWII monument: a wrapped bundle of sticks – also a
fascist symbol and yes it was erected during Salazars rule.
Up some streets we found a
staircase up the hill (we love going up stairs) and ended up in the garden of
the Castelo: this is one super cool little courtyard garden: flowering bougainvillea’s
hanging along the wall, palm trees: Climbing on the wall and the view was
amazing over the town with the ocean in the far away background. We exited on
the other side in front of the church – walked down by another church: as the
weather is so beautiful we decided to skip going in. And then we headed slowly
back via the super cool riverside park: where we stopped and watched some
turtle suntan – which was cute, as they all scrambled on that bit of sunshine
available.
A sunny afternoon around the
Pool
After so many days of
sightseeing, clouds and being fairly cool we decided to enjoy the warm sunshine
and went to relax near the pool: look at the palm trees and the glittering
water, read and relax. And as we are off-season there was nearly no one around.
As the air is still fairly cool – we only poked our toes into the water as well
skipped taking the boat over to the island and to the beach. Upright means
being in the wind – being flat means: you feel the nice warm heat.
No we are all ready for summer!!
Oh let’s not forget we did
interrupt our relaxation with a coffee and walks around the pools – not that
someone thinks we are lazy đŸ˜Š
And we leave in the clouds
This morning we woke up and
realized on how fortunate we were yesterday with the sunny weather – this
morning it was windy and cloudy. Slowly getting ready and then we are on the
road again, we are now leaving Portugal for a while.
