San Gimignano, Tuscany, Italy

San Gimignano On the road through Tuscany

After we got lost – like wrong autostrada – driving around for 2 hours and not a too happy Gine, but a cool Paul we arrived at nice weather in San Gimignano and found great parking right outside the city walls.

San Gimignano San Gimignano
  • A medieval walled hill town in Tuscany – the town of the Fine tower
  • Today 13 of the 72 towers from the 14th century are left, wealthy families built the towers to show their power and wealth.
  • The rooms in the towers were narrow 1 x 2 m and always part of the house
It looks like a "Manhattan" of the Middle age – it's amazing. Old Streets, lots of flags – no cars (ok the roads are not wide enough) – mmhhh and they sell yummy pizza – so sitting on the marketplace and enjoying this – that’s what we love in Italy.

San Gimignano Torro Grotto: We went up this tower to enjoy the great view over the town, the piazzas the whole area and saw all he other towers.

They even had a place with free seats and a nearby gelateria with another delicious Italian ice cream… and not even that expensive.

Around Tuscany
Sunflower fields: Continuing on we saw lots of sunflowers and wonderful little Italian villages and arrived in Pisa.
