Comox Lake Boat Launch, British Columbia, Canada
Camping at Comox lake - June 16-18, 2017
we moved to Comox in 2007 and we never went Camping at Comox Lake.... this year since Gine works Monday - Friday, we can only go camping on the weekends and only for 2 nights. With our "new" boat, we thought it is perfect to check it out at the Comox Lake. After Calling, we even got a lakefront Campsite.
We are boat owners
Since Paul always complaints that the kayak does not have an engine – it only has a limited space for bringing staff along and we only can go a certain distance… we always said: one day we get a small boat so we can explore all the lakes here…  And this year it was the time: we found a nice little 12 ft boat on a nice trailer with nearly new engine… so we got it… perfect for us….
Camping at Comox Lake: Cumberland Lake Park
You have a boat you have to go camping at a lake… so how about the closest lake ever: our own Comox Lake… and so we decided to check out the campground there: so we booked, and we are on the way camping with a boat behind the motorhome!!
How difficult is it to get a boat in the water
Ok so backing up with the boat on the motorhome is not that easy, especially if the backup camera doesn’t work and Paul can’s see what the trailer does… so after a little arguing if Gine gives the wrong instructions or Paul doesn’t follow them… we decided the boat goes right away in the water…  so we backed it in and it came off easily… that means the first hurdle down. So Gine tied down the boat to the dock… the trailer was then put in place and locked and now….
Paul’s first Boat experience
The Boat has to go over to the campsite… So Paul goes in – lucky the engine starts… but Paul encountered a few problems beside it being a little wavy… the tank was in the back so the boat was to back heavy – but he found a solution and he found the beach… and Gine already with the motorhome on the campsite (yes Gine was driving - but not backing it in - that's Paul's job) waited for Paul coming on shore…
We are impressed the boat is light and easily to pull up on shore.
Camping at the lake shore
Setting up the RV for a camping weekend is always fun – if the sun is shining it is even better and the best is: if you do it right on the water front… which we did: fire on the beach with some yummy bread on the stick… we love it… - ok so it was a little bit windy… still we can sit watch our boat, the lake and the fire..
and it is perfect to walk a little bit along the shoreline in the evening as well as early in the morning.
Our first Boat trip to explore the Lake
it is not the sunniest and hottest - but we are really eager to try out our new boat - as well discover Comox lake. With warm jackets we start out  and we discover it is super easy to jump into the boat from the shore line and on we go - out on the lake: in the wind along the shore line and we already discover there is a lot to see
How far should we go
Good question: what does the weather bring… so we decided not too far, but before heading back:
It’s Maintenance time
Paul said the engine is not totally in middle and the seat on the wrong side… so we found some trees and tied down the moving around starts: as long as nothing falls in the water – because that is cold… and afterwards we are ready to continue on and know all is in best working order.
We hear water falls
And so we went towards the shoreline and slowly along between some tree trunks in the water until we find the waterfalls: a perfect spot to sit back and relax and have a break
Meeting the coast guards
And if an official boat comes towards you: it’s inspection time: good thing we have the life jackets and a rope on board…
The sun comes out
Finally: that means jackets off – sweater offs and we relax on the water in the sunshine… until the clouds come back…
Who’s the captain of the boat??
That is a good question – but then Gine was on the engine and went on to explore some more… so we cross over the lake (with Paul not so relaxed) to explore
Flowers on the rocks
Which I think is so super cool, when you can see the flowers growing right on the steep rocks
Getting the boat out of the water
Will be the next adventure??? We go right on shore and there stays the boat during Gine went to pick up the motorhome and during that time Paul already had the trailer down at the lake… it’s so easy to move. And then the trailer a little bit more in, push the boat out and pull in with the rope on the trailer, the strap on and pulling in and during Paul slowly drives out, Gine pushes it in place… all went smootly: except Gine got wet feet and Paul gave his instructions!! But the boat is so light it is so easy to pull it out by hand
Camping means let’s go shopping
So we’re back on the campsite and the weather is cool – what know? We can’t watch a movie, because the DVD player is crap… so let’s go and get a new one and then we can watch a movie tonight. So that’s what we did except we didn’t watch a movie, because we had:
A wonderful evening
Around the fire… with some red sky at night (even the next morning it was clearly not a sailor’s delight) - and as it was getting coleder we decided an evening inside the motorhome is great!!
Good morning in the rain
if it is sunny then you don't want to go home... but if the clouds hang low and it looks like rain and you are only 15 Min from home: then you pack up - drive home and have a wonderful nice breakfast & shower in our cozy warm house. Oh and let's start to make a list on what we all need for our boat....

Comox Lake in sunshine - June 25, 2017
and since a week later the sun is shining - we decided to check out the lake again... which was awesome, we went all the way to the end where you have an amazing view on the Glacier. along the shoreline we find some cool rocks, which are cool to climb on, but they are not that great to pull the boat out... but then we find a super cool rocky area and we set up and enjoy the sun and lunch.. explore a little. What can we say we had an amazing day on the water.
