– Ralph River
No propane!
Finally we are ready to go – we need some more propane. Last week they
didn’t had anybody there who could fill up, today we came and guess what: she
said the pump is not working (clearly we were wondering if it is an operational
malfunction) – good thing up in Campbell River they also have propane and so we
filled up and are ready to go.
The pump is not
working
Instead of at 11.00 – it was noon when we arrived – hot weather, so
let’s set up and then put the boat in… Gine checked which direction is the
pump, so we went there and see there a yellow sign says: pump is not working!!!
So we made coffee with water we had and need to remember to fill up when we
come back from boating.
Getting the boat in
the water
The water is incredible low, so the ramp is very long… after a few
attempts we decided to manually let the boat into the water… that went well
until we came to the concrete slaps… so Paul brought the motorhome and in we
push it… we were excited because it started up right away and off we go.
Lots’ of shoreline to
go to
For starters we went across the lake and found a super nice spot… Paul
for relaxing – Gine for shore exploring. Once the shade of trees came onto the
shore we crossed over the large waves and stopped at another cool shore line
with lots of tree stumps.. which makes it easy to tie down the boat. Paul
extended it’s relaxing in the sunshine and Gine checked out the tree ghosts and
then it was time to go back…. The easiest to get out the boat is: Paul drives
back and Gine straightens out the trailer – boat on – check if it is straight –
all tied down. Then parking and we have our evening swim right off the boat
ramp in nice clean water… who needs a shower
A warm evening
it is a super nice and warm evening: so we have cold cuts and sit
around in the top and shorts… we even had to open all the windows in the
motorhome and were sleeping only with the sheets because it was so warm (and
the motorhome was in the shade!!!).
Boating Day 2
Another hot and sunny day: that means after a nice coffee in the
sunshine – camping breakfast we are ready for another day of boating: down to
Kaarst Creek and in the water…. And on the go we are.
Sandbar at the Myra
falls
Today our goal was the Myra falls and this year there was a huge sandbar
with crystal clear water and sand: you looked into the water and thought you
were in the Caribbean so clear was the water… ok the tree stumps and the
mountains are a little bit different. We set up in the super nice sand… and
from here we could swim over to the next sand bar and then over to the falls.
Gine discovered if you swim to close to the falls exit you go from nice
warm lake water into a freezing cold stream it’s like a shot. But you can
nicely climb along the rocks and enjoy the falls from the bottom… we couldn’t’
see the falls at the pool and wondered how much water is in there… but when
right underneath there is still a huge fall.
It was a lot of fun to be here…
And we brought everything and made coffee… I mean really what is better
than having coffee on a sandbar with waterfall sound and view and the best
beach ever.
High winds
Some few clouds came on the northern side of the lake so we decided to
leave early … and once around the bend: there were huge waves – guess we got
totally soaked. When we wanted to take out the boat the waves went up and down
a foot…. Good thing our boat is so light and we can adjust it if it goes on
crooked. So despise being windy all went well… and we went back and had again
our daily swim: today it was wave swimming……
Spaghetti when camping
When Gine asked Paul what do you want when we are camping he said: Spaghetti!!!
Really… but so we had it… and as per Paul make enough noodles!! That’s what
Gine did!!
Again it was a warm evening and we saw the sun going behind the
mountains.
The Myra falls
this morning it was a little bit cloudy and looked like it could be quite
windy so we decided: it’s waterfall day. Up we drove for our walk to the Upper
Myra falls, but before the mine we got stopped at a security check and got
told: sorry closed because of the wildfire there last week….
More time at the lower Myra falls: once there we discovered 2 things:
there are a lot of people here today!!! And there is not a whole lot of water…
climbing around a little bit and checking all out and we decide we will find a
better spot…
When we wanted to leave another motorhome was parked right near us: a
23 ft Adventurer – and that is when we decided I think we do have to downsize
and get a smaller one….
Stop at the bridge
You can’t be at the end of the lake and not stopping right! It was
extremely windy and where once was lake –then came the tree stumps… now the
grass is already growing around the stumps….
Kaarst Creek
Still full of energy Gine decided to go to the Falls – Paul said there
is no water if there is no water in the Creek – and Gine: if there is water
will you go then and check it out: and Paul only laughed. Paul stopped the time
and then Gine went: up the path with a quick stop at the disappearing creek and then back at the
falls… and there must have been a slide not to long ago… a lot of new rocks are
down there… so better safe then sorry, today I watched it from the distance and
back the other route – which goes through the creek since the bridge is missing
– and a lot of trees crossing the path…. And back after 32 Min
High waves
Ok sweaty and hot: time for a swim: today we had up to 3 foot high
waves… so Gine had her own wave pool – it was so much fun, you could stay in
there forever- so no swimming only fun!!
The huge shore line
and the old forest at Ralph River
After a coffee we decided to go for a walk along the shore line… and
the shoreline gets bigger every year, it’s nearly a hike to the lake to some
huge tree stumps all the way to the river… and then after supper a quick walk
around the campground where we could see one huge cut down tree, some even
bigger uprooted trees and I think the largest monster tree is in camp site #
72: it is huge!!!
Clouds around the
mountain tops
this morning the clouds where hanging around the mountain tops… I think
it is a lot of fun to watch how the clouds move and slowly vanish in the hot
air….. Good bye... and it's time to go back home
