San Pancho - Lo de Marcos

Lo de Marcos, Nayarit, Mexico

Poor sunrise.

Washed some clothes.

Around 9am, headed down to the bus stop. Got on a bus heading south. Got off in San Francisco. The maps and road signs say 'San Francisco', but all the signs in town say 'San Pancho'. Read about this somewhere on the internet (which I can't connect to right now), but I can't remember why they do that.

San Pancho has a lot of english on their signs, some of them without any spanish on them, indicating a large foreign presence.

The buildings are in better shape than any other town I've been in, as are the streets, and even the trashcans.

I didn't price any of the hotels because I just knew they'd be too high for me; also, though the beach is nice, there are no hotels on it, only two restaurants, and half of the beach is private property.

Lo de Marcos was my next stop. Nice looking beach. Maybe a dozen hotels, half of which were closed (a couple of them maybe permanently, judging by the condition of them), and two or three RV parks with bungalows, and maybe a dozen private homes, and even a couple of apartment complexes (not many ocean views from these), and a condo or two. So lots of options for living within a block of the ocean.

I checked pricing on two hotels (one behind the other) with mostly ocean view rooms. This is where I'll be coming to next. So I didn't take a lot pictures of the town or explore it much.

Had to have a beer on the beach (and to get out of the hot sun)!

This town is a little dumpy, like most of the others I've seen. I guess most people are just getting by. Took these shots from the center of an intersection.

Got back to my casita after 1pm. No internet. So I just read the rest of the day. More than ready to move on, but I can't see blowing off 1200 pesos (prepaid rent), which would feed me for two weeks. I'm only getting Soc Sec at the moment; my work retirement kicks in at the end of Oct; otherwise I might be willing to give up the $75 in exchange for a little more comfort.

Ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch and dinner (on multigrain bread with omega 3!) Lemonade with lunch. Wine with dinner. Rum and Coke and cookies for dessert.

Poor sunset. Washed some more clothes. Read. Went to bed.
