Arriving in PV

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico

Took a few sunrise shots. Lots of clouds, but they make better pics. I think the moon looked good!

I tried to do some work on the blog, but the wifi was bad again. Struggled with it for a while. Then I packed up, took a shower, went to the atm, and caught the bus for PV. This bus went about halfway into PV, then I caught a local bus which got me about 5 blocks from my hotel. Bus total: around $1.25.

I love maps. But I'm beginning not to love them so much. Regular maps don't show the hills. The hills can be so high that you walk twice as far (not to mention all the extra effort) as if you'd taken the 'longer', but flatter, route. I went up this street that should have connected to another one but it dead ended at a hill. I climbed some very steep stairs to go up about 100 ft to that next street, which was also uphill. Only hiked about 20 min total, but it seemed like an hour.

Arrived at Costa Linda, no clerk. Walked around, found a maintenance/manager guy who took me to the office. Their computer is down, so no reservation. No problem: got a room.

At this point I just wanted to crash for a while. So I went to the OXXO down the street (just a few minutes walk) and got Coke, ice and munchies. Next to the OXXO is a Subway. They have a 6 in sub for $1.50, but I got the $5 footlong. Got back, took a shower, fixed a drink, tried to work on the blog, while eating my sandwich, but again the wifi was up and down: sometimes it moves at the speed of light, other times you might wait 20 min for it to do something (usually it times out and you have to retry and retry and retry...). Just part of life outside the US. Deal with it (chill out) or go crazy. Realize that nothing outside the US or Japan or some European capitals moves very fast or works as efficiently as what we're used to. You MUST have a laid back attitude and allow for delays, otherwise you'll never have a good time. So I grabbed my kindle, my drink, and flopped into the big chair.

About noon I went down to the pool and sunned myself for about an hour. Then I came back to my room to my usual routine: try to blog, sip on my drink, read, nap - repeat. Didn't feel like going anywhere. For supper I just snacked on peanuts and chips.

At sunset, big black clouds came in, and shortly thereafter the rain began, and got heavier, and heavier. I like the rain, as long as I'm inside and dry. The a/c in here works great.

Read until I fell asleep.
