Boca de Tomatlán, Jalisco, Mexico
Got on the Mismaloya - Boca bus; went past Mismaloya, not knowing how small the town was.
Got off in Boca, walked down the hill.
Walked back and forth on the main street looking for a room. No hotel signs, no room signs, only a couple of apartment signs.
Started asking people for a room: was referred to a couple people; one has no vacancies, the other was too dumpy for the price.
Walked all the way to the other end of town (only 1/2 mi) to a place with a sign, but because of all the rain, they had mold. So the guy called his brother, then had his son take me over to the brother’s house. Ended up with this room for $27.
No towels or soap, no AC, no wifi. But it’s newly built, or renovated, has a new refrigerator, and cable tv (I watched Monday Night Football, in Spanish).
Room wasn’t ready when I looked at it, so I dropped my pack and went and had lunch: ham and cheese omelet and juice.
Went back to the room, took a shower, then grabbed a bus to Mismaloya.
Mismaloya has a nice small beach, that is surrounded by restaurants. You can see that the lodgings are all on the higher priced side.
The town itself is on the backside of the river that feeds down into the small bay: it’s very small, and there isn’t much there for rent.
As I walked through the town I quickly found myself past it. It's that small.
So I just kept on walking. I knew there were a few places where I could get a nice pic along the way.
I walked and walked, and now I'm getting tired and thirsty, but there are few places for a bus to stop, so I just kept on walking. Only covered about 3 mi but it's all up and down hills. Felt longer.
I’d noticed El Kliff from the bus, and ended up there. So I stopped in for a drink. I had a feeling this was one of those hidden (high priced) places. Couldn’t tell much from the outside, but you could see it as soon as you walked in: multi terraced dining, well appointed tables, a hostess, two bartenders, three waiters, and only two tables of guests. Ordered a rum punch: $5; cheap for that type of drink, but on the high side for Mexico.
I hope you can see why it’s called ‘The Cliff’. Amazing how they’ve terraced the whole thing (I only took pics of one side).
The drink refreshed me enough to finish the hike: it was only a short way now to Boca.
Wanted something to eat, but didn’t see anyplace that appealed to me. So I bought a couple cokes and some water, then I went back to my room, sliced up some salami and cheese, got out my kindle, and waited for football.
Watched the whole soggy game, then went to sleep.
