Forget about it

Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico

Got up at 0500 so I could walk the city before it got too hot. Less than 15 min after starting out, I'm getting sweat build up. It's not the temp, it's the humidity, and lack of air movement.

Look at the name on the upper right. Sure enough, two hours later it was closed.

Walked about 6 mi to this lagoon on the backside of Manzanillo.

At this point I want a donut, a juice, and someplace to sit. The 7-11s here are OXXOs and Kioskos. The OXXOs usually have a table or two; the Kioskos one table or none. When I started my walk, there was an OXXO on nearly every corner. Now all I'm seeing are Kioskos. Went by three stores: one had no table; at the other two, the help was sitting down with friends. The fourth store had two tables, one occupied by help. I got my juice and donut and sat down. Needed that. Then I took a bus back to my room ($0.40 well spent).

Manzanillo's beach is just so-so: the sand is a little rough, a little more slope to it than I like, access is not that easy unless you're in one of the hotels. The hotels are okay but nothing special for the most part.

You can probably get anything you need here, but it's not like PV or Guadalajara. There's WalMart, Sam's, Home Depot, Office Depot. You have Burger King, KFC,Carl's Jr, Domino's and Pizza Hut. On one intersection, there were sushi restaurants on three corners. And I saw three casinos, small ones. Three clubs were still open at 6am.

Best that I could do for sunrise - too hazy.

After resting up and cooling off, I went back out to do my due diligence and check out the rest of the area. Manzanillo bay comes to a point at the north end (where the wall of hotels is).

The other side is actually another town, Santiago, where I am (just over the town line). Part of the beach in this area has some dirty dark sand in it. The rest of the beach, as you continue north, is okay, but it's a little trashy and there are only a few places to stay. Most of the big places you see are condos. The whole area is trashy, and the people are loud and obnoxious.

The buildings you see on the hillside are homes, condos or apartments. If all you wanted was a place with an ocean view and some city amenities, this might work. Otherwise, it's a forgettable city.

The kids that were here last night were gone when I got back from my first walk.
This afternoon, some really obnoxious twenty somethings moved in.

It's dinner time. And it's game night.

                              Pizza!

                      Beer!

And watching the Patriots trash somebody!

How can it get any better than this?!?!
