Lots of closed restaurants

Playa Azul, México, Mexico

After a shower, I went and checked out some other hotels. It’s too hot to sit in the lobby (not even a fan) to do internet. Found another place for the same money as the first one. It was about 10:30, so I went to the laundry place: my wet clothes were sitting in a basket. The lady said to come back in a couple more hours (good thing I hadn’t planned on leaving that morning).

Moved my stuff from the first hotel to the second one. It was close to the lobby (maybe that was the only way to get wifi). But it was quiet and the wifi worked, so so.

So now it’s lunch time. Again I walked by a lot of places not doing any business. I ended up down by my laundry place: socks still not dry. The lady had hung my clothes on a clothesline! I can’t remember having clothes sun dried since my mom did it! She put my socks in the dryer. We chitchatted for a little bit (she knew a little english) while she folded my clothes and my socks dried.

It’s still lunch time, so I went back by the strip of restaurants on the beach. I’d noticed two with comparatively large kitchens. I stopped in at one of them. An old lady took my order, then I heard her calling out to somebody. Next thing I know, a young man brings me my beer, and I see a middle aged woman in the kitchen. Three generations to serve one customer (until a couple of old ladies sat at another table). These beachside eateries all have about 50 tables, or more, sitting on the sand, under palm thatched roofs. So they must get really busy during ‘the season’. This place even had hammocks stretched between the roof poles so at least one of you can chill in comfort while everyone else sits in plastic chairs at the table next to you!

I forgot to take my camera with me, so I don’t have a pic of the meal. I pointed to a shrimp dish and repeated several times the name of it, and she repeated it: a bunch (like 22) of small butterfly shrimp, peeled, in some kind of vinegary and spice sauce, with cucumber slices all around plus broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. It was good. The price on the menu was $100; the bill said $130. That’s less than $2 difference, but still no excuse for ripping me off.

Went back to my room. The internet was kind of up and down. Read in between trying to complete a blog until it was bedtime.
