Decent day

Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico

Temp and humidity in the mornings has been in the low 70s. I figured as I kept going south that it would only get warmer. But PE has been really nice temp wise. As the sun comes out, and all day long, the humidity is high, but, if you're in the shade, it's tolerable, as there has also been a pretty steady breeze. I take a couple of cool showers every day, as there is no AC in my apt (probably have it in a few months).

Took a walk down to the beach. I'm about 7 minutes and 7 stories away! Didn't know it was so far down. Nice little beach though, with several bars to take care of you.

On the way back, I picked up my laundry that I dropped off yesterday. Washed every stitch of clothing, except for one long-sleeve shirt I hadn't worn yet and a swimsuit I bought for laundry days. $3 for about 7 lbs worth.

9am Time for school! You younger people shouldn't feel so bad about going to class: some of us older people are still doing it.

First class: learned a lot of new words, and how to use them, but I've used only a few of them so far; but a couple were already helpful, as I understood more of what several people said to me.

My teacher met me a little while later to help me to get my phone fixed. Went to this expert he knew: said it was the software for the phone service. Sent me down toward the fishing fleet: big Telcel help center there. Guy at reception desk, who routes you to whatever service you need, didn't speak much english, walked me over to this clerk who did speak pretty good English and who seemed to understand what I was telling her. Ended up needing to fund my account, as it was at zero balance. She set it up, and it's been working fine. No charge, except for the $12 for 400 minutes (Mexico only).

Spent the afternoon on the computer. Got hungry about 2:30: too early for dinner.
3:30 Couldn't wait any longer.

Walked up the strip; quite a few restaurants, at least a dozen, many geared to Gringos.
As you can see, this place is a little different.

I couldn't understand the waiter's explanation of what the dip was (tasted a little mushroomy), and the bread (pumpkin?) was warm, and he left olive oil also.

The lamb (shank?) was good, served with pumpkin and large fries ($8). The house wine was okay, no idea what it was.
Wine and Piña Colada, $3 ea.

Strolled back to my room. Read a little. Watched a movie, while sipping on Kahlua and cream.
