Walk through the park

San José, San José, Costa Rica

It's 2:30pm. I've spent all day so far catching up on my blog.

My next bus is tomorrow at noon.

So now I'll check email and Facebook, then shower and see about food.

It was about 3:30 when I went outside. There was a bit of a breeze and the temperature was maybe 74º; it was also mostly overcast: so, with the wind chill factor, I caught a bit of a cold and my throat's been sore. Now you know why I want warm weather. Warm - not hot. On the bus into Costa Rica, I was seated next to a girl from Mexico, now living in Dallas. It was a lot warmer than usual, for an air conditioned bus. When we were in the customs line, I kept fanning myself with this fan I bought in Guadalajara (because it was hot walking around in the market). When we got back on the bus, I walked to the back to use the rest room. It was nice and cool back there. When I returned to my seat on the third row, I remarked to her that it was a lot cooler in the rear; she said 'You're hot?' and then she said she liked the warm weather. I was doing my best to keep my armpits covered so as not to offend anyone (even myself). So I'm looking for warm weather, not hot, and no humidity, please.

Anyway, I walked to the park, about half a mile, and walked around taking pics. The park is about a mile long, half a mile wide. I strolled around a little more than half of it.

I was surprised to see the metro. Hardly any trains anywhere anymore.

I went to Mickey D's for dinner: they don't have a 'dollar' menu, but they did have a C670 ($1.25) menu with six items on it.

On the way back, I stopped into a Subway to pick up a sub for dinner ($8).

I watched a movie (99 Homes: so-so). Then I grabbed a Fanta in the lobby ($1.60). I was drinking a lot of water because of my throat, and watching another movie (A Christmas Star - cute, nothing special), but I wanted something other than water, so I went down to the lobby at 8pm but it was closed until 9pm. Watched the rest of the movie. Then kept going up and down to the lobby. The girl showed up at 9:20 and made herself a latte before taking care of customers. Got a coke ($1.60) and a Gatorade ($2.90, small bottle). There is nothing close by to get any kind of food item. So you're kind of stuck and they're only too happy to stick it to you.

This is a slightly seamy part of town, especially at night; even the cabbies look seamy: grubby clothes, unkempt look; there are 'not so inviting' types hanging about outside, and other unholy characters down the street. Like in Managua, the employees, facilities and the location leave a lot to be desired.

So I read and drank my Coke until I started nodding off. Time for sleep.
