Another day - Another island

Aridup, Guna Yala, Panama

Got a bit chilly about 4am: I grabbed a sheet off another bed; that did the trick. A little hung over, I stayed in bed 'til about 8am. I was still one of the first ones to get to breakfast. Most of these young people are slow risers, taking advantage of being on vacation!

Because we ate breakfast so late, it wasn't long until we headed out to today's island. Some stayed behind because they were leaving this morning. But new people arrived and off we went.

I'm sure that some of these island pics I'm taking at a distance are the same as ones I've already taken, although maybe from a different angle.

Don't know the name of this one, but this is where we eat lunch today. The guy getting off the boat is my new roommate. The Argentinians are off to Colombia, after a night in Pty. This guy's name is Alex and he's from Holland.

Went around the island taking pics. Isn't the water gorgeous?

And the temperatures are perfect!

It was too dangerous to go snorkeling around this wreck, especially with the wind picking up (see the whitecaps?) But on the opposite side of the island, there was a dock which had fallen into the water and a reef, so plenty of snorkeling there: saw this neat little round, blinking fish; it was tinier than the tip of my little finger, and it was tri-colored but the colors kept moving around and blending together, mostly red with blue and green (I know, don't need to tell me).

After lunch it was time to head back. We'd gained a couple people at lunch, but lost a whole bunch when we returned to our island.

All day long the wind kept picking up. We still had mostly sunshine, but it was starting to look ominous. The boat rides almost always leave you at least a little wet. The islands are mostly reef protected so the waves aren't very big, maybe 3 feet, tops. But I think that part of the adventure is the rough boat ride and the resultant sprays! The drivers could go slower, and on occasion do: there was one time, the following day, when the driver went quite a while without splashing anyone; someone in the back of me must have told him they wanted a little more fun, because we took on more water on the rest of that ride than on any other ride!

At dinner time, there were only ten of us now. No partiers either, plus I'd had enough (and spent enough) the previous night. Plus it was getting downright chilly, and the wind was still picking up. Even my roommate, a 20 yr old, was ready for bed. I think it was only 9pm!
