Stroll about town

El Valle de Anton, Panama

Been here three days and hardly seen anything . So I rented a bike for the day.

Now, I haven't ridden a bike in 20 years: so I was a bit wobbly and got saddle sore. I rode around the western half of El Valle for about an hour, going up and down the paved roads.

I don't think I mentioned this before, but El Valle is inside an extinct volcano that's about 4 mi in diameter. The main road runs E - W. No matter which direction you go, you're going to run into a mountain. So I pedaled around until it got too steep then turned around. I was out for about one hour, then I was ready for a break.

An hour later I did the east half of town, taking some pictures of houses and mountains. No one is crowded here. The temps are in the 70's night and day year 'round. It's the dry season, so all we're getting are short lived sprinklings: you might get a little wet, but within thirty minutes you're dry again.

I took a two hour break and was going to go back out, but one of my dorm mates asked if she could go. So that was the end of my bike riding.

Most of my time has been spent chatting with my dorm mates and a couple of local characters renting rooms on a semi permanent basis. The rest of the time I read.
