Short walk around town

Boquete, Chiriquí, Panama

Got up about 5:30 . The internet works great until about 9:30, and then slows down to a crawl. Got caught up on all the blogs except yesterday's: a guy sat next to me and started chatting; by the time we finished chatting, the internet had slowed again.

The guy I was chatting with, Erik, late 20s, is from Vermont, and is traveling by motorcycle for a year or two. He made another long trip a few years ago. So he's been around some, knows a lot of information about different places, and is very interesting.  Eveybody has been chatting him up and I've heard him repeating his stories: I wonder if this gets to be a hassle after a while.

With the internet not helping me (besides keeping up with blog, email and FB, I'd like to do some research), I decided to take a walk around town. Looks like there are lots of picturesque places to live.

When I was researching Boquete, I thought it might be too cold, but so far the weather has been great: 80º daytime, 60º nighttime; it gets hot in the sun, but it's great in the shade .

Boquete is at 4,000 ft, but the area slopes down gradually to David, about 24 mi away. I plan to check out some of the other communities in the area. It gets warmer as you go down to lower elevatons.

There are waterfalls and hiking trails, and the ocean is less than an hour away. I may not give the area a thorough look, but it's definitely on my list of possible places to plant my ass.

Lunch was chips and a couple beers. Then I took a nap (got up early, remember). Read until it got dark. Went back to Big Daddy's for another filet mignon; probably the last such splurge for a while; although $15 for a bed and $25 for dinner still is under budget (hey! I can eat steak every night!).

Came back, chatted with some people, read a little bit, hit the hay.
