School search

Quetzaltenango, Quetzaltenango, Guatemala
All of my roommates get up around 6am. That's okay with me, except it's too friggin cold to get out of bed: 3ºC/37ºF. It's a lot warmer in the room (just from body heat), but it's still pretty cool. Got my legs under the covers, but a jacket on my body while I type this but it's still cold; thinking about putting another layer on, may have to buy a hat that will keep my ears warm!

8am. Two of my roomies are gone; I think they're at Spanish school, staying with a Maya family. My other roomie is still here, but I haven't seen him since 7am.

Got going at about 8:30am. Went looking for five Spanish schools; found two. Locations in Xela are difficult. I'm not even going to try to explain. You want to know more, look it up on Google maps.

After about three hours, I decided to head back.

Stopped on the way for 'lunch': banana split.

So I've done another three hours research, and I'm ready to go out searching again in the morning. But right now I need a break.

Just finished talking with a girl from Maine for an hour. She took a month's break from her job in NYC to come to Guatemala to learn Spanish.

Researched restaurants. You gotta know, this is a city of 225,000 population, so, lots of choices.

Decided on pizza. Good pizza, but not a bargain at $14 for a loaded medium pie. Had one beer, ate three pieces, brought the rest back.

Four boys from Nebraska are here for Spring Break: they're staying over and leaving in the morning on a 3-day hike. Chatted with them for a while, read a little, went to sleep.
