More disappointment

Quetzaltenango, Quetzaltenango, Guatemala

Grabbed my stuff, then dropped it off at Casa Seibel.

Went to my 11am appointment. Looked at two places for homestay: not satisfied with either one. Went by another school: it was closed.

Too much walking. Returned to hostel to rest.

Got hungry. Went to an 'american' bar called Dos Tejanos (Tex-Mex food) and got a chicken burrito (decent, $4). Tried a new beer, Dorado: kind of like a Miller Genuine Draft, $3.40; not worth the premium price.

Sat in the sun reading most of the afternoon, just trying to stay warm.

I've been to several restaurants that have fronts as part of a building (haven't seen any stand-alone ones). There is this one old building (among many others - see previous pics) that has a 'tunnel' going from one side to the other, two stories high, with five restaurants, a travel place, a Spanish school, and a couple other offices. Dos Tejanos is one of those restaurants.

Another one is called Tecun. Went there the other night for wings. Tonight I had chicken rings (like onion rings) with pieces of sausage (close to hotdogs), tomato and cucumber slices; not bad for $4.

I keep going back to this 'restaurant row' because I can people watch. Most of the time I eat alone; most backpackers can't afford to eat out. The other restaurants will have customers at one or two tables (I won't usually go in if there is no one in there). These restaurants seem to be busy most of the time.

Cheap day for food; plus I took half of it back for tomorrow!

Watch a tv series. Off to bed.
