Quetzaltenango, Quetzaltenango, Guatemala

Time to move on from Casa Seibel . I decided against a homestay, mostly because I wasn't finding what I wanted. So I looked around for a private room with bath. Found what I wanted at the Zen House (see pics below). The room is large and airy with a high ceiling and plenty of natural light from a window and double doors to the courtyard. The window opens, but it's on the street side (small street - not much traffic). I don't forsee any reason to open it. The courtyard is mostly covered with transparent plexiglass, but raised about a foot to let heat out and air in. My room has a desk, a night stand, lots of outlets, double closet with hangers and a full length mirror (haven't seen any of those in hostels so far). The bathroom is crowded though, about motorhome size. The rest of the place is fairly accommodating: large kitchen, large bathroom, two more showers and toilets, laundry machine we can use once a week, clotheslines, and free oranges.

There's a sister hostel a couple doors down, owned by the same guy: El Colibri (pics after I go visit it) to which I have access (same front door key) . So it's like having two places for the price of one. At $8/night, can't be beat. Even the wifi is half way decent (though we lost electricity for several blocks for a couple hours this morning - rolling blackouts in Quetzaltenango?)

Spent a couple hours in bed. Then made my way over to my new place. Had to wait a couple hours for people to vacate my room. So I messed around with my phone, updating apps, etc.

After I got moved in, I got on the computer and worked on this blog, uploaded photos, then watched tv series the rest of the day.

Went out once to buy a Coke. Ate the rest of my onion rings at lunch, and the rest of my calzone at dinner.

Now it's a little reading and off to bed. Have to be up at 7am to make it to school at 8am.

Working at a desk instead of sitting on my bed is a lot easier and I can get a lot more done.
