Boston, Massachusetts, United States
An early start from Belfast with a first stop on top of the hill (by car!) in Camden Hills State Park for another stunning view, then to Freeport, home of LL Bean (for the uninitiated very like John Lewis - but with extras). And finally back down Interstate 95 to Boston, watching the petrol gauge because the car has to be returned empty and I'm not giving Avis more than I have to. Annie had invited Bill and Mary (who we have known for years, Bill is also one of the organisers at Putnam Camp in the Adirondacks that we visited earlier in the trip. So that was a good evening and next day we focussed on local errands and chores (laundry and the like) and a walk round Lake Waban which sits, mostly, in the grounds of Wellesley College, a private university, where you can play 'watching how the other half lives'! And that evening we took Annie out to dinner, while Tim was at Yoga..
Friday we had to return the rental car to Avis at Boston airport and then went into old Boston to walk round much of the Freedom Trail that goes to historic places like the site of the Boston Massacre, Paul Revere's house etc . And then to the movies - screen 14, which in the UK you would expect to have a screen no bigger than your TV and about 6 seats. Well it was enormous with brilliant screen and sound (salty popcorn was rubbish though!) We saw Argo with Ben Afleck (nothing to do with Argonauts, about getting six of the US people who were in Iran when the Embassy was stormed, but escaped to the Canadian Ambassadors House, getting them out of the country under the audaciousguise of being a movie crew. Sounds unbelievable but all based on real life, apparently ).
And Saturday morning our train to Connecticut took us down the western seaboard, where lots of sailing and motor boats were making their way to marinas or being shrink wrapped - just like the contents of your fridge in plastic!
We began to hear about the storm predictions that are likely to mess up our stay in Washington.
Random photos with this include some of the ones from earlier in the trip that I couldn't get off that camera until I bought a new adaptort at RadioShack.
