Day 41 - Quiet Day, ZinZanni Night

Seattle, Washington, United States
This is our third day in Seattle, and I think we've seen most of the touristy things we wanted to see. We thought about doing one of the overnight trips to Victoria, or San Juan Islands, but it was just too much hassle with the bike, and the fact we don't have real luggage. So we decided to save those places for when we come back for an Alaska cruise someday.
We had one ticket left for a ride up to the top of the Space Needle in our Citypass, so we decided we would have our coffee up there early and beat the crowds . So we headed back up to the top, and relaxed, drinking our coffee, looking out over the Seattle skyline. On the way back out, I look over, and who do I see leaving the Space Needle? Mark Hayes, the Navy Test Lead for my former eCASS Program at Lockheed. It turns out he is visiting Seattle with his family on vacation. It was nice to see him, but I just can't seem to escape from my former life.
On the way back to the hotel, we stopped at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Visitors Center and checked it out. It was just a few rooms explaining some of the good work the foundation does, and a little theater where we could watch some video clips. Today was just a relaxing day at the hotel. I caught up on some of the trip planning and Jody did laundry. By the time we finished up, it was around 3:00, so we headed over to Starbucks at the Armory for iced coffee and people watching.   Since July 4th weekend is gearing up, there were a number of interesting street people performing. Mostly, we were just killing time as we had dinner theater tickets and we needed to head over at 5:30 .
There are basically two kinds of dinner theaters, the large cheaper ones with the mediocre dinner theater food, and you eat first and then see the show. Teatro ZinZanni is the other kind, small, expensive, with gourmet food, and the show is intertwined with the meal. The room is circular, with all the performances taking place in a raised circular stage in the middle of the room. The stage is probably about 12 feet in diameter. We decided to spring the extra few dollars, and had a table right next to the stage. There is always a risk that you will be picked for audience participation, but we decided to risk it.
The show was wonderful! It had a superhero theme, where the mayor and eventually others were kidnapped and held captive for a ransom of beer. There was a stunningly beautiful red haired acrobat and contortionist and her "twin" 7 foot tall drag queen sister. Interspersed were singers, dancers, hula hoop dancing, trapeze artists, a pole climber, and skits. The food was excellent, and it was five courses . The waitresses were part of the dance troupe. Jody managed to escape audience participation, but I was one of several tapped to throw paper airplanes at the Canadian midget doing a King Kong - Faye Wray skit.
Needless to say, we had a great time. Unfortunately, we couldn't take pictures inside, but you can look up Teatro Zinzanni and Vita Radionova on Facebook to see. Of course, Jody liked the pole climbing guy, Domitil Aillot much better. All the performances where amazing!
Tomorrow is the fourth of July, and there is an event in Lake Union Park tomorrow afternoon, ending in fireworks tomorrow night. It should be fun. Seattle is a fun city, at least when it's not raining, and we have had wonderful weather all week.
