Day 100 - The Last Adventureless Day

Vidor, Texas, United States
Today is Day 100 of our motorcycle adventure. It should be exciting to think we have been on the road for 100 days! It IS exciting, unfortunately today's ride just didn't live up to the excitement of the 100th day. We knew when we started out that today would be over 300 miles, so we tried to get on the road at a more reasonable time. We did pretty good, and were on the road at about 8:30.
After recovering from our night in Paris, today we were just heading south on our way to Beaumont, the last stop on our way to New Orleans . The weather was cooperating, and stayed between 82 and 86 degrees all day. No wind and no rain, just the perfect weather for riding. We basically stuck to US-271S, TX-49E, US-59S, and US-96S, all the way to Vidor, Texas. Vidor is just a suburb of Beaumont on the northeast corner. No need to head all the way into Beaumont as we are heading east in the morning.
We looked all day for something noteworthy to take a picture of so we would have a subject for the blog. We checked TripAdvisor for something exciting to do along the way, but nothing. The roads were nice, 70 - 75 mph all the way. Lots of hills and easy curves. Plenty of small town along the way, some with McDonald's so we could get a cup of coffee. One little road project that slowed us down for about 10 minutes. Nothing really exciting. East Texas is just your typical southern scenery though the speed limits did seem a bit high. The 2 lane roads were 70 mph and the 4 lane were 75 mph, keep in mind that people have driveways that connect to these roads and there are lots of blind hills and curves. I guess Texans like to live dangerously, and don't like getting speeding tickets, so they set the speed limits high.
We got to the hotel in Vidor at about 3:15. Plenty of time to relax before dinner. We looked around, and there was nowhere but fast food to eat for at least 10 miles. And while we were relaxing in the hotel, they had a rain shower. So we decided that it would be Waffle House for us tonight. At least we could walk there from the hotel.
We are really looking forward to the next few days. In the morning we head out to New Orleans following a scenic route through the bayou. It should be a great change of scenery. We have the same hotel booked that we stayed in over 10 years ago when we were last in New Orleans. We're curious to see what it looks like since Katrina. We'll be there for 3 nights which includes Jody's birthday on the 2nd. I'm sure we will find some great places to eat.
