Transition day two

Steamboat Springs, Colorado, United States
We got up and ready by about 7:45. Nick found a remnant from yesterday's ride, see picture. We filled up and headed east on Highway 40. We stopped at Dinosaur National Monument and wandered around the visitor center and took the trolley up to the demonstration dig. Very interesting on both regards. While riding in, Nick tried to avoid a couple of prairie dogs. One escaped the other not. We contemplated erecting a memorial site with flowers and a tiny cross, but we didn't have the time. When we left the visitor center we went up to Split Mountain overlook. That brought back memories of river running days for Rob. Split Mountain is were they pulled the rafts out of the Green River.

We stopped in Maybell, CO to cool off and get refreshments . We were told by the store clerk about the fire 4 miles east. We rested and then left before they closed the highway, but we managed to get through. We stopped at Subways in Craig, CO. Dave was looking for a diner that he had eaten at prior but he could not find it, until we had eaten and were on our way out of town.

We left at 3:45. It was only 40 miles to Steamboat but it seemed much longer, it was 4:45 when we hit town and found the first brewery, Butcher Knife Brewery. There was a small female about 115 pounds who had ordered a litter of beer. After consuming about 1/3 of the beer, her complexion became ruddy.

We headed into the hotel and rode down to Mambo Italiano were we ate out on the patio. Jeff arranged for Nick's wine to come out with a skewered cherry on top. No cocktail umbrellas available.

It started sprinkling then the wind started blowing. Everyone left the patio except us. The force of the wind kept increasing . They took our umbrella away and it kept getting worse. We finally relented and went inside. The lasagna was large and very good. While sitting waiting for our food, the rain kicked up hard and it started to hail. No damage to any of the motorcycles. When we left the hotel rooms it was warm and when we were to returning after the rain it was cold. Luckily Rob had his inside coat. Very warm but obviously we should've had gear on to begin with. Poor Jeff only had his short sleeve shirt.

When approaching the hotel's security door, two women were about ready to go in. They smiled at us and asked if we wanted to 'follow them in!' They accidentally dropped their key card and gentleman Jeff bent down and picked it up for them. We are not sure, but there might have been some ogling. The legend continues. We are tucked in for the evening, alone.

Tomorrow Dave departs us and heads home to Denver. Nick, Jeff and Rob head for Independence Pass.
