Ended up in Glennwood

Glenwood Springs, Colorado, United States
We left Steamboat Springs around 9:00 and parted ways with Dave. He headed home and Jeff, Nick and Rob headed for Independence Pass. Half way from Steamboat Springs to Wolcott Nick pulled over and said his engine was sputtering. We decided to limp into Edwards and have it checked out. But when we got to Wolcott he said it was fine so we continued on.

We headed east on I-70 to Minturn . The weather started looking bad. When we got to the top of Tennessee Pass we pulled over and assessed the weather. We decide to continue sans rain gear, bad decision. We got rained on and when we hit Leadville it was raining, we looked for a covered gas station to put the gear on. Oh $&!?@, Leadville had a street fair and the Main Street, the highway, was blocked so we had to detour and every cross street had a stop sign. Finding a gas station Rob pulled in and a can-am pulled into the pump Rob wanted; Rob decided to cut a sharper turn; the bike started leaning to the right and the parking lot was angled so his motorcycle went down. There happened to be about five other bikers waiting for the rain to subside, they all ran over and helped pick up his bike. Everybody picked up the motorcycle and pushed the bike under the cover and near the pump. The bike would not start, but after about three minutes it started. And then while pumping his gas, the pump didn't automatically stop. Rob was looking for his rain gear and glanced over and saw a waterfall of gas coming down the tank and all over a hot engine and exhaust pipe . Luckily nothing happened.

All suited up we headed south toward the turnoff to Twin Lakes and it started a down pour and there was several major lightening strikes. The roads and weather became dry the closer to Independence Pass we were. After passing several cars it was a great trip to the summit. There were several motorcyclist at the summit. While parked at the summit, Dave, Rob, and Jeff were talking about the similarities between Independence Pass and Beartooth pass when a motorcyclist that was close by heard our comments and made comments about how great Beartooth pass was and that they had just been there recently their selves.

Coming into Aspen, we were parking in regular parking spots where we had to pay when a young man came up to Nick and told him that the area between the cross walk and the first parking spot was free for motorcycles. An Aspen policeman happened to be walking by and confirmed the information . Jeff, Nick and Rob found spots on opposite corners. We went to a place called Hops Culture where Rob had a shake and Jeff and Nick, the usual. The waitress had an Australian accent and was a good sport. Nick asked for free tasters, which they would not do. The seating situation had our bar seats on the outside facing the bar seats that were on the inside with the windows open between the two sides. A couple of younger women sat across from us and chatted with Nick and Jeff while Rob was looking online for the evenings lodging. The women were from Wisconsin and in Aspen for a friends wedding. They were touring all over, Colorado Springs, Air Force Academy, Royal Gorge, etc...

When we got into the motel in Glennwood Springs, Jeff noticed he could not find his glasses. He couldn't find them anywhere and ended up walking over to Rite-Aid to get some readers.
