Tuck and roll

Los Cabos, Baja California, Mexico
Roger said something yesterday that I thought was right on the mark - "We're not on holidays. We're just retired in a different place for a few weeks."  Maybe these deep thoughts are coming from his having finished ... yes, I said FINISHED ... the book "Gringos in Paradise" he was reading. :)

Well, the clouds and rain have moved on, and we're back to clear skies and beautiful weather, and there's a fantastic breeze coming off the water. At 11:00, bikini girl said it was 74 degrees, so we headed to San Jose for the Saturday Mercado Organico (Organic Market). We went to it when we were here in January, and really enjoyed the food, music, and artisan booths. You have to walk about a mile out of town on a dirt road to get to the field where they set up the market, and the rain yesterday had washed out the road in several places. We were gingerly trying to get around the washed out areas, when a Mexican man with a small pick-up truck stopped and waved to us to get into the box. So we did. He kindly drove us over the washed out areas and dropped us at the market.

As we were getting out of the back of the truck, Roger somehow slipped on the bumper, grabbed for the tailgate (which slid loose), caught his foot, and was headed for a header when he did a tuck and roll and bounced back up so fast I thought he had landed on a trampoline. A car was coming and he landed close enough to it that the guy stopped and looked quizically out the window at Roger as he landed and leapt back up. Roger threw his hands in the air and said "I'm good", and brushed all the wet sand/dirt off his clothes. This all happened in seconds, with me still standing dumbfounded in the back of the truck. I very, very carefully got out of the truck, and we pounded on the box and yelled "gracias" to the nice driver, who had never gotten out of the truck and probably didn't even know what had happened. I had a smile on my face and broke out giggling the rest of the day whenever of thought of his tuck and roll. Poor Roger. Anyway, we bought a couple of Christmas presents at the market, and had some fantastic deep fried enchiladas and fresh squeezed lemonade. I also had homemade coconut ice cream (with coconut chunks in it) ... fantastic, and Roger had lime sherbert. We also met a lady running a booth who is from Washington state. She said there is another lady who usually has a booth, who is from Saskatchewan and used to make perogies for the market. They always sold out. Too funny.

On our way back to town from the market, a nice Mexican stopped again and had us jump in the back of his truck to get over the washouts. This time, Roger and I were both able to get into and out of the truck without going ass over tea kettle. :o)

After walking around Old Town San Jose for awhile, and stopping for a refreshment at Shooters, we took the bus back to the Baja Blue, a restaurant right across from where we stayed in January. Roger has had a hankering for Chile Rellenos (stuffed poblano peppers), and he had them there In January and loved them. We ended up meeting two sisters there, Maureen and Sue, who are a couple of crazy old ladies (in their 60's ... lol) from Vancouver. Kinda reminded me of what Eva & Lorraine must be like when they travel. We got to talking (mostly Maureen talking and us listening), and ended up eating with them at their table. They were a hoot. They offered us a ride home (that was interesting - Sue, having had two Bahama Mamas at supper, driving a huge SUV in the dark on the 8-lane highway). Roger needed Depends sitting in the front seat giving Sue directions, but we are happy to say we are back safe and sound.

Will be interesting to see how many places Roger has gout tomorrow from his tuck and roll.

wow, that was your best day yet, IMHO LOL I love adventures like that. Memories are made of this...... I was running this mental movie in my head, you two in the box of pickups, Roger doing his tuck & roll (applause......), & the ride back with pissed Sue. Loved the comment about the 2 'old' ladies that reminded you of Eva & Me LOL
