A word about cactus

Los Cabos, Baja California, Mexico
Last nite, there was a wedding at Sunset da Mona Lisa restaurant, just down the road from us. Roger saw the bride and groom, and the mariachi music and later the music from the Mexican band drifted up to our condo. It would have been a beautiful spot for a wedding reception. Would have liked to crash it to take a peek!

It's very windy today, and a little overcast. We usually head straight to the balcony first thing in the morning, before it gets too hot out there. But this morning there wasn't much sun on the balcony for us to bask in (Roger thinks I was a cat in my previous life. Maybe that's why I'm a Leo?). The sun did come out in the afternoon, and we spent more than our normal afternoon time out there because the wind made the termperature quite pleasant.

Today I started reading my fifth book since we're here, all from the condo owners' bookshelf:  Oprah: A Biography; Traveling with Pomegranates; Gringos in Paradise; The Memory Keeper's Daughter; and The Beast in the Garden.

A word about cactus. My sister Eva emailed today, and her friend had commented about us eating cactus. When you go to the grocery, they have a cactus booth with one or two guys hacking the needles off the cacti with a knife. The cacti pieces are the size of your hand or bigger, and you buy them like you would any other produce. Then you cut them up in bite sized pieces, and boil for about 45 min. I asked Roger how he would describe the taste and texture of the cooked cactus, and he said "like green pepper that has been cooked a lot."  I agree. The texture is very much like cooked green pepper, and the taste is actually quite bland ... like overcooked green pepper. So there you have it.

Supper tonite - Sunset Lounge for free sunset appetizers, then pizza and seafood brochettes.

You should have 'crashed' the wedding? Sometimes they like gringos showing interest in their weddings etc? Alrtho with Cabo, gingos aren't a huge novelty, verdad? re cactus - I saw lots of diced nopales in the market in Morelia. They suggested I toss some in a salad - yuk..... sort of reminded me of raw asparagus? When cooked, do they serve them alone of mix them with other veggies like maybe corn?
