We're here at SPI!

South Padre Island, Texas, United States
We arrived shortly after 4 pm. Not very warm here - 13 degrees - and very windy today. Lois made a yummy supper, and we had a good visit. Gil & Lois are both sick with colds, so are not quite up to par.

Not much interesting on our trip today . We started to see palm trees about an hour out of SPI, so that was encouraging, but it never warmed up to more than 15 degrees today. Lois says it is supposed to warm up again to mid 70's by Sunday.

As funny thing ... as we were entering the bridge to SPI, there was a sign that said something to the effect "watch for pelicans when lights flashing."  What the ...? What does that mean? How would the lights know when to start flashing. Will have to Google it.

Only one stop for Roger and S.K. today, so final total is Roger 13; S.K. 6. Our total gas cost from Regina to SPI was $140. Awesome. We love our car. :)

Enjoying your travel journal ... and very envious of you being in Texas. Would love to get back there ... it's on my bucket list :) Re S.K. - at what speed does gas kick in?

Glad they made it safe and sound, and sure hope they don't catch our deadly colds. Now we can start planning some fun stuff.

@Eva - Glad you are enjoying our journal. As for what speed gas kicks in on S.K. - it goes back and forth between electric and gas depending on speed (on electric only is at ~ 40 km/h or under), when going downhill (very fuel efficient when travelling in the mountains), when idling (turns itself completely off), when decelerating (is actually charging the electric battery when decelerating). It actually gets better gas mileage in the city than on the highway, because gas kicks in more on the highway.

I'm impressed with your car too ;o) Please let us know what you find out about the pelican warning sign. I googled that question & altho the warning light was mentioned, the articles didn't say HOW the light knows there are incoming pelicans? You'll be pleased to know that we are expecting real winter next week in the -15 daytime range. brrrrrrrr LOL

Me again ;o) Do you just plug in your car in a regular plug in? That would add to your power bill, yes??

@Lorraine - no need to plug in the car. It charges itself - mostly thru converting energy when decelerating. Have never had a problem with a low battery. Re. the pelicans - we were at the tourist info today and forgot to ask. Will check and post the answer. 'o)
