Lafayette, Louisiana, United States
We got into Lafayette around 4. We took our time leaving this morning, and we had a couple of delays along the way (traffic, construction). Getting thru Houston took about an hour, even though we didn't go right thru the middle of the city. The freeways there are insane, and everyone is driving while texting, talking on the phone, smoking.

We experienced a bit of road rage a few hours later in Louisiana . We were on a four-lane highway, and Roger was doing a bit above the speed limit about to pass a semi in the left lane. He was right behind a truck in front of him, so he couldn't go any faster. He looked in his rear view mirror, and a broad (I'd call her a woman but she doesn't deserve it) in the Tracker behind him was flashing her lights at him ... like he wasn't going fast enough. He raised his hand and kind of shrugged at her, as if to say "I can't go any faster because of the guy in front of me". She then was waving at him, telling him to move over into the right lane. Nice ... did she not see that there was a semi in that lane? So we continued along and, when he had passed the semi, Roger pulled into the right lane. I was looking out the window at her as she charged past us, and she made a face at me. She only got about a car length ahead of us when she too was stuck behind the black truck in "her" lane. Too funny. We thought we might be lucky enough to see her talking personally with a police officer on the side of the road ahead, but no such luck .

Lafayette is nice. Love all the French streets names - lots of Rue de _____. We drove around a bit, tried to see an historic house built in the early 1800's, but it closed at 4, and then found a beautiful park (Girard Park) by the University of Louisiana Lafayette where we walked the 1.25 mile walking path. 19 degrees here, but very pleasant (no wind, not humid - SPI had both, and I hate wind, but the wind probably made the humidity bearable there). ;o)

We had local fare at a nice restaurant called The Blue Dog Cafe (named after the blue dog art that is everywhere in the restaurant, by a Louisiana artist named George Rodrigue). Roger had Crab Au Gratin, and I had a bread bowl with Sherwood Forest Brie Bisque (crab bisque with brie cheese). Both very good but very rich. Not gonna loose any weight in Louisiana, I can tell you that already. :oP

We were pleasantly surprised when a jazz quartet set up and played as we were finishing supper. We listened to them for a bit before heading back to our hotel. Loved the guy named Blackie on the bass fiddle.

We expect to arrive in New Orleans around 2 tomorrow.
