Galveston, oh Galveston

Galveston, Texas, United States
We're here! We left New Orleans shortly before 10:30 this morning, and arrived in Galveston at about 4:30.

When we left New Orleans, it was 8 frickin' degrees Celcius . Here it was 14 when we arrived ... better, but still not the warm temperatures we're craving. We discussed at supper that, next winter, we have to go somewhere where 75 degrees F is below average, not above average. :oP

Rather than go around Galveston Bay, thru the Houston area traffic and then down to Galveston, we turned south before the Bay and headed to the Bolivar Peninsula. At the end of the Peninsula, there is a free ferry that runs back and forth to Galveston. Along the Bolivar Peninsula, we had views of the Gulf of Mexico, and saw some interesting subdivisions full of houses on high stilts (presumably in the event of flooding). The ferry ride itself was only about 20 minutes, and there were four ferries running so there was only a 10 minute wait to load.

We were able to get to our house in Galveston with no problems, even though we are only 2 short blocks from Seawall Blvd where there was a Mardi Gras parade getting set up to start at 6 . After unloading the car and checking out the house (which is very cute), we headed out to get a few groceries and to have some supper. That was a bigger problem, as the detours and road closures for the parade made getting anywhere difficult. Anyway, we got groceries and ate at a popular Italian restaurant called Mario's.

Then we headed home to do laundry, which we desperately need to do as we had no washer/dryer in New Orleans and we didn't bring very many clothes for cold weather (dammit, that cold weather)!! Also, the temperature in the house was 50 degrees when we got here, so we punched it up to 75 to try to warm up the place. I damn near froze in the house in New Orleans, which only had a window AC/heater and a portable ceramic heater. Those 30 degree nites and 50 degree days were chilly!

Anyway, enough whining. We're here and have our fingers crossed that the weather will warm up.

I LOVE your little house! Nicely decorated ;o) Great idea to come in via Bolivar Pen. I don't think we did that. Would have been a nice option. Hope it warms up for you. I wonder if this is typical temps or just a bad winter?

me again ;o) Just a wee update to make you feel better about the cold weather you're having. People on the Morelia Mexico forum I monitor were complaining about the unusual cold weather there lately. One recommended email gloves = regular gloves with the finger tips cut off LOL Great idea huh?? Anyway, seems it's been an odd winter in Mexico too, AZ as well? I think the continent was flipped & the former southern half is getting our winter hehehe

We love the pictures form the parade. How come when you laugh like that there is always nether regions involved? Have fun.

I was thinking the same thing! The last time there was a picture of me laughing like that was when I "accidentally" grabbed Roger from Strasbourg's ass! LOL
