To avoid going back up through the mountains at Flagstaff, Roger decided he wanted to go southeast to Tucson before pointing the rig north. Although it made for a longer trip, we're glad we did as we loved the area around Catalina, in the Oro Mountains, about 10 miles outside Tucson. The area is more treed, including palm trees, and in a beautiful valley. The Catalina State Park is located there. If we do this Arizona thing again, we would go there for sure.
Our first stop on our way home was at Truth or Consequences, New Mexico
. Weird name for a town. Turns out it used to be called Hot Springs. In 1950, the host of the radio show Truth or Consequences announced that he would hold the show in the first town that changed their name to the name of the show. And there you have it. Interesting bit of trivia.
Our trip was uneventful until today. We went to bed to brown outside, and woke up to white. :( When we arrived here in Pueblo, Colorado last nite (just south of Colorado Springs), there were bits of snow here and there, and lots in the mountains. But the forecast was for rain and snow overnite, and we got it. We've been leaving early in the morning and travelling 8 hours/day, but we'll have to stay put for a few hours this morning and let the roads clear before we venture out today. We can hear the snow melting and sliding off the roof of the trailer as we speak, so it's melting quickly out there.
We are hoping to get to Sheridan, Wyoming tonite. It's Roger's dad's 87th birthday party on Thursday night. It would be nice to be there, but we don't want to push too hard as the roads get iffier. We'll see how it goes today.
Ack, snow!

We love Tuscon area and it is a must see including Catalina Park. I recall hikes there while Gil golfed on Brokeback Mountain.... our joke, it is actually called something like that. Safe travels. We are off to the ballgame Chicago and KC.
