The riding begins

Hanoi, Ha Nội, Vietnam
Last night we have met our cycling buddies, our smiling Vietnamese guide and today we put our bikes to the test. Did a 25 k warm up ride around the largest lake in Hanoi, we thought walking was perilous, biking is almost laughable, but we all survived.
They are a good bunch, four Australians, one Brit and us, I think we may be the eldest . Long is our guide and he is very pleasant, has many interesting personal stories and enjoys our questions. As well as being very switched on re the biking side of things. We have quite a team.
During our ride we paid tribute to Uncle Ho, he is loved by all. We walked slowly for 50 minutes with thousands of others, to then pass by him in his embalmed state, and then wander the grounds in which he lived and studied. It is a wonderful story, the only shame would be, with all his work for Vietnam, he died before the war ended and reunification was achieved.
Now we rest and tomorrow we head out of the city and on our way south.
