A tasting

Milton Vineyard, Tasmania, Australia
We arrived at the Tasman Highway intersection and turned north and headed into the East Coast Wine region.
We knew we were going to have a wine tasting at the Coles Bay Lodge, but we had no idea whose vineyards we would taste.
We chose to call into the first one we came to which was Miltons Vineyard
We tried several varieties from Sparkling, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot, Syrah and Ice Riesling.
We bought a bottle of Sparkling Pinot, and the Ice Riesling which is a desert style sweet but not as sweet as botrytis. We were also very impressed with the Dunbabin Reserve Syrah. Very much like a cool climate softer shiraz. Which is what Syrah is, it is basically the Shiraz grape but as Tassie has a cool climate we cannot make a bold gusty shiraz. Nevertheless the Syrah from Milton is exceptional it is somewhere between a Pinot and a Shiraz style. So we bought a bottle to bring home.
