NY Day 3

New York City, New York, United States
What a day! It rained, but not before we'd been to Bon Au Pain for breakfast. Steven's a true New Yorker now; he's had a bagel with a schmear for breakfast two days running (not to mention the large coffees). I've opted for the slightly more continental blueberry croissant and chocolate croissant and small coffee.

We're really a big hit here; a local asked us directions for the nearest Starbucks! We didn't know where it was . We're running out of clean clothes so have to do more shopping.

The day passed reasonably uneventfully with us dashing in and out between showers to get out of the way of the cleaning lady and to get Cold and Flu drugs for Steven. Our stop off every outing is Duane Reade, a local drug store that never closes.

Dinner was at Bubba Gumps Shrimp Restaurant on Times Square. It's a Forrest Gump themed restaurant with paraphernalia from the film. I'm not a fan of the movie, but Steven is and at 5:30 pm the queue was short.

We know the rule for Australians travelling in the US is to order only one meal for every two people and share it, but we keep forgetting the rule. We ordered the appetiser sampler to start. It came with prawns cooked 5 different ways and a mush of cheese, cabbage and capsicum that looked like someone else had already eaten it and had a bad reaction; serving it at body temperature didn't help . For his main Steven had some sort of peppery prawn soup, while I ordered Momma Gumps Southern Fried Chicken with mashed potato. It was big and it was bad. There were at least 30 prawns in Steven's soup and my two pieces of chicken would have fed a family.

But dinner wasn't important, because after Bubba Gumps we were queuing down 49th street waiting for the theatre doors to open for Chicago.

What a show! I'm not sure if Chicago is the right name, perhaps Cheek-ago or Nipple-ago would be more fitting (there were plenty of body parts to go around). I can't think of good enough words to describe this show, all I can say is that after running for 10 years in the same theatre the house was sold out, so I guess that gives a fair indication of the effect this show has on audiences.

After the show we fought our way down Times Square (stopping off at Duane Reade's for supplies) and got back to our room to discover it was, again, midnight.

Tomorrow we're planning on some real shopping at Macy's (if Steven's up to it) and we're really excited because we're going to see Broadway's newest success, winer of this year's Tony Award for Best Musical, 'In The Heights'.
