The last few days

New York City, New York, United States
The last few days have been a blur, (and there are lots of photos). We spent a day in the hotel while Steven slept and recovered from his cold; an excellent idea.

When he was better, we went for a walk . We began at 11 in the morning and returned to the hotel at about 10 that night. Steven tells me we only walked about 18 kilometres, but I'm sure it was more like 50. We began at our hotel on 44th street, and wandered down 5th Avenue (past all the shops), merged onto Broadway around 34th street and continued down past 1st street, into Soho, into Tribeca, into China Town, into Little Italy, across the Brooklyn bridge (into Brooklyn) and back, around the World Trade Centre re-construction site then back to 34th street, along Broadway to 9th avenue and up to 52nd street (Hells Kitchen) where we ate a Thai meal and returned to our hotel on 44th street.

That was two days ago. Yesterday we did all the same, but by bus so we could get some more pictures. Today we travelled north on the Hop-on/Hop-off bus service into Harlem. Wow, it's like a suburb, and hilly.

We've probably done more but I can't think right now.

Tonight we're going to see Young Frankenstein, its Mel Brooks first show after The Producers . Wow, after all the hustle and bustle of fighting the crowds to cross Times Square several times a day we could do with a laugh.

We've got a few more big days coming up - tomorrow night we've got Premium seats for Wicked, followed by my early birthday dinner AND 4th of July fireworks on Friday. We've bought super cheap tickets to A Catered Affair (Harvey Fierstein's new show) on Saturday night then Sunday we're walking down to the bottom tip of the island (again) and getting the Stratton Island Ferry to Stratton Island for the day.

We're off to San Francisco next Tuesday and we've still not seen a single museum or art gallery, we've still got TONS of shopping to do (Steven's yet to buy his new suit), we haven't been out on the water or up to the top of the Empire State Building, we've still got to visit the Radio City, explore the remaining 80% of Central Park, visit Chelsea, The West Village, Alphabet City and eat at Papaya Hot Dogs.

So little time.

Oh, I forgot to mention Hairspray. Well, the 12 year old sitting beside me almost turned inside out and popped as the curtain began to rise. I was similarly happy, right to the final encore.
