Sweet Vung Tau

Vung Tau, Vietnam
Vung Tau is a pleasant fishing village (with about 450,000 residents). We visit the beach, parks, the old French Governor's house, a fantastic temple with sea views and finally the statue of Jesus - which is two metres taller than Rio's Christ the Redeemer, excluding the base. The statue sits atop the 170 metre Nho Mount - so you can't really see the statue, or get a feeling of its size and beauty without climbing the mount and getting close. Once at the top of the mount there are 133 steps inside the statue which take you up to Christ's shoulders where you can walk out onto the arms. It would be fantastic to climb the hill and the steps, to get up close to the statue, go inside and see the view from the top - some people might consider climbing the statue the highlight, if not the purpose, of their trip to Vung Tau - but we don't have time because the ship's horn can virtually, almost (but not quite), sort-of be heard warming up in the distance to tell us its time to go (or so we're led to believe). There's only enough time to take a few snaps before being shunted onto the bus and taken back to port (but not before a quick look at the Whale Temple, it seems).
