Shanghai, Shanghai, China
The Yu Garden is a private garden, built by a loving son for his parents to make them feel more comfortable when they came to live with him in the city. The garden took so long to build that the parents didn't live to see it complete, but they must have enjoyed it as grew each year while they were alive.

I wish I had the space, time and money for a garden like this one . There are ponds and dragons that trail along fence tops, 'mountains' and ancient trees, both big and small. This is another of those places that you must visit at least four times - once for each season. It is the end of winter when we visit and very crowded, so it feels a bit like we're pushed through to keep ahead of the crowd. It would be nice to stay in the garden for a couple of weeks and have it to ourselves.
