The most southerly point of the North Island

Martinborough, North Island, New Zealand
Phew everyone is still talking after two nights of playing rummy. Not that we are a competitive family but I would just like to say that I won the most games both evenings even with Graham and Sammy declaring I must be cheating! Missed having Sammy and Duncan around today as they had to head back to Wellington to work.
We headed off to Cape Palliser, the most southern point of the North Island which now means we have visited the most northerly and southerly points of both islands (sad or what) . Great lighthouse at the point, unfortunately it was at the top of 254 steep steps (the Kiwis do love their steps) but the view at the top was stunning. We then stopped for our picnic and to look at the seal colony where we were told there was a large elephant seal on the shore. He was awesome about 6 metres and just snoozing in the sun.
We thought we'd take some rays too but it was too hot at 30 degrees and too windy on the beach so we had a nice drive around looking at Ngawi with its rusty bulldozers used to drag fishing boats ashore. Next stop was for coffee at the Lake Ferry Hotel, a definite time warp venue but once again an amazing view across the estuary. Nice drive back home along the Lake Wairarapa shoreline for a much needed shower and chill.
