Steams Up

Wellington, North Island, New Zealand
We awoke to a complete change in the weather with a drop in temperature from 30 to 15 degrees and drizzle. Luckily today only involved driving to Wellington and stopping at the Featherston Railway museum. Graham of course was in his element and even I was impressed by this little museum. We watched a 1955 film about the Rimutaka Incline Railway, amazingly someone had the foresight to produce this before the line was closed that year. The Fell locomotives were in 'temporary service' for 77 years until the tunnel through the Rimutaka mountains was completed. They ran using a third central rail, traction on the way up and braking on the way down. It was also only one of 3 tracks worldwide and in service the longest and of course designed by a Brit.
After an excellent coffee in Featherston it was off to Welly and a return stay on Oriental Parade . Not a brilliant view in the rain but great going up the hillside in the funicular.
The evening started well with a pre cinema drink with Sam and a great Vietnamese meal (alcohol free). We then watched The Revenant (walking corpse) which although very gory was very good. The evening then went downhill from then on with the last part of the evening being spent in a great bar until finally getting to bed at 2am. I am much too old for such activities.
