Whales Ahoy!

Kaikoura, South Island, New Zealand
Thought we'd better have a healthy breakfast of eggs and toast ready for the boat trip today which was sensible as it was quite a heavy sea and they were advising anyone likely to be seasick to cancel. Great boat and our captain was very good at keeping out of the worst swells. We were very lucky to see three Sperm Whales today which was more than usual. They submerge for about 40-60 minutes then surface for about 15 minutes. It was spectacular seeing them up close and then watching them dive throwing their tails in the air. We were also lucky to see a pod of pilot whales accompanied by some bottlenose dolphins. A memorable experience and very informative crew providing information throughout the trip (probably to take people's minds off being sick).
As you will see from the photos the sun has returned and there wasn't a cloud in the sky all day . It was so nice to be warm again and sit in the sun for a few hours reading.
Graham has just come back from checking the crayfish pots with Woody (don't know where I got the name Wally from yesterday). Yippee two large crayfish for dinner tomorrow, cannot wait
