A day of treats

Wellington, North Island, New Zealand
Our last day in Wellington started with not enough sleep and being woken up by building work, specifically a wacker plate ouside our window at 8.30. However compensation was soon at hand when we met up for brunch with Tim and Catherine who were in Welly for a few days. Sammy and Duncan also managed to join us before the breakfast service finished.
The next few hours were spent shopping and I bought a lovely Carly Harris dress and also a sensible sun hat for Australia . No purchases for Graham but we did get a funky dress for Sammy. After so much credit card exertion we needed sustinence in the form of ice cream, much deserved.
Graham and I then went to the Te Papa museum to see the huge lifelike mannequins produced by Peter Jackson for the Gallipoli exhibition which even had real hair, brilliant. Even bumped into Tim and Catherine again so a final farewell before they returned to Nelson.
The day continued to just get better with a surprise visit to Carlucci Land, a mini golf course laid out with wacky rusty artistic welding, absolutely brilliant. As is usual there was keen competition between the four of us and Sammy was leading before a few unfortunate holes. Very close finish but needless to say Graham did not win.
To finish the evening it was a quick drink on the seashore at Island Bay (felt like being in Cornwall), followed by fish and chips from the Chippery in Welly eaten overlooking Oriental Bay. Nothing beats eating in the fresh air but no newspaper these days. As we won't be seeing Duncan until his visit to the UK in April it was only fitting to have a farewell drink but only one.
