Heritage Tour of Brisbane

Maleny, Queensland, Australia
Phew actually arrived at the Brisbane car park without a hitch but hey ho all three at the Arts Centre full so we had to wait over 20 minutes to enter. Big deal you may say but this meant Graham missed his planned ‘full Australian brekkie’ and morning coffee and didn't get lunch until 3pm after our heritage tour. He was literally wasting away. Interesting tour of the historical buildings with a motley bunch of tourists who kept interrupting the guide. She occasionally was rambling but we did learn a lot about Australia’s penal colony. After escaping the tour and reviving Graham with food and a coffee ($8 for an excellent toasted panini and flat white coffee, couldn't get the same in England for £4), we had a leisurely stroll through the botanical gardens. Too hot to tramp. Had a quick whizz round Old Government House which unfortunately is unfurnished but good info boards plus a guard telling us all about the resident ghost named George. He was not in evidence during daylight. Next stop the Old Commissariat Store, one of only two surviving buildings erected by the convicts which again had good info boards. Strolled along the boardwalk with the commuter cyclists and decided a bevy was much needed before driving home. Great bar that brewed its own beer and Graham had his first decent Aussie pint. Thought it would be full of Aussie guys drinking pints but there were more smartly dressed women than men, also drinking pints.

I see you got back to Brisbane to do your cultural tour. Some interesting old buildings there.
