Trees and Sugarcane

Airlie Beach, Queensland, Australia
On the road again ready for 6 hours windscreen time. Had a quick stop in downtown Rockhampton to survey the restored 19th century buildings on the river front. Also found the steam tram museum (closed) at the old station before nearly being mown down by a freight train, Graham too busy looking at the rails rather than stopping.
Then we headed off up the A1 and whoopee some of the route was 110km/hr, a bonus and cranked up the cruise control . First few hours there was the same sparsely wooded scenery but later on we started driving through the sugar cane plantations and even saw some coastline. Coffee stop was Marlborough, not good but lovely lady who made us sandwiches for lunch later, unfortunately also not that good. Picnic spot was Sarina besides a huge sugar refinery and Information Centre where I got info to visit Hay Point, the second largest coal loader port in the world. Quite impressive looking out from the view point.
Finally made Airlee Beach just before 5pm to collect our key. Nice apartment with much needed air conditioning and fans as once again 35 degrees today. Quick reccy of the town and found supermarket and liquor store for barbie and sundowners.
