Walkabout in Airlie Beach

Airlie Beach, Queensland, Australia
Nice not having to look through the windscreen all day today. Very stormy and overcast with intermittent downpours though we managed to avoid each one either at breakfast, in a bar or catching up on emails etc.
First stop in town was a good breakfast and excellent coffee . We then booked our boat trip to the Whitsunday Islands for tomorrow before going walkabout on the Bicentennial path along the seashore. Luckily flat and no steps but the overall walk was about 6kms in 100% humidity (probably slight exaggeration) and 35 degrees again. Marinas at each end with some nice boats but nobody seemed to be going out sailing, too hot or too stormy me thinks. I know I am moaning about the heat and humidity and it is our fault for being here at this time of year but I don't know how the Aussies cope with it let alone the original settlers.
Realised why those sunbathing between showers were not on the empty beach but around an open swimming area. Four types of horrendous stingers (jellyfish) in the sea so a no go area. No wonder we have to wear stinger suits when snorkelling tomorrow. Still think a hungry shark can bite through them though. Not sure what we need to wear once on the islands to combat the venomous snakes and spiders let alone the sand flies, think I will keep the stinger suit on. Tasha would need two for the spiders.
After perspiring for several hours we stopped for fluids, me a lemonade and Graham a beer, think he is getting more used to Aussie beer, before purchasing some fresh coral trout for tea. Looks like a big pink trout but is a lovely white fish. Sunset drive out to Shute Harbour where the transport ferries depart to the islands.
