Havana, Havana, Cuba
We knew today was going to be wet so we headed off in just light drizzle to begin with. First stop was the Colonial Museum housed in a stunning building. No English signs but it was ok as an enthusiastic Cuban attendant whizzed us around describing all the artefacts in great detail. Only problem was she didn’t speak any English and funnily we don’t understand Cuban yet. The Museum of The Revolution, housed in an old Palace (Fidel Castro thought it a good contrast) thankfully had English signage and was very informative. I never realised that every natural disaster, epidemic (swine flu/dengue fever) or incident (plane crash) that occurred in Cuba after 1959 was all attributable to the USA!!
After another truly dreadful coffee this morning meant we decided to try our luck in the Packard hotel as it looked posh enough to have a barista. Result a flat white with coffee in it. Don’t hold out much hope for the rest of the trip though. We then proceeded to get drenched walking back to the hotel while Graham kept telling all the taxi drivers who accosted us that we were British and used to getting wet. It’s still raining now and we’re supposed to be going to a Cuban musical evening 2kms away. Taxis will definitely be needed.
