Last day in Laos before flying to Hanoi at 5pm. A lovely day sailing on a long-tail boat for a couple of hours to Ban Muang Keo. Another weaving village but the village also has a distillery which produces distilled rice wine. Funnily Graham thought it was ok and a bit like grappa but not my bag. Another use for the spirit was to insert some poor specimen into the bottle for medicinal purposes, snakes, geckoes, beetles etc, horrid and luckily we didn’t have to sample.
We then travelled onto an abandoned temple in a 100 metre cave full of buddhas which are cleaned during the New Year festivities thank goodness as they were looking very dusty. We then climbed a mere 240 steps to yet another cave to light candles to pay homage to the buddhas.
Another tasty lunch and sail back to Luang Prabang for our flight. Bit of a shock landing in Hanoi to 18 degrees and drizzle and a busy bustling city. Still the hardcore, Paul, Lyn, Graham and I managed to hit the bar by 9 and didn’t need dinner after yet another airline snack on a one hour flight.
