Itinerary - Today, you're free to get to know the hotel and the many treasures of this historic spa resort, perhaps paying a first visit to Montecatini Alto for its stunning views, or enjoying a leisurely lunch.
Alternatively, you can take advantage of the optional excursion to a Chianti winery to sample some of the most famous wine of the region - oh no you can’t, that’s on the itinerary in 2024.
First things first I need to get my room issues resolved - this sink is fixed there is no safe in the room but in fairness my fellow travellers have all said it’s not worth having. The water runs clear so I should be ok now.

We had the welcome meeting and I know where to go to get booked on a wine tasting tour on my next free day. I need a o go and pay up after 3 today. I have also got lunch sorted on the day I go to Florence for 22 bucks it’s either pizza or pasta and wine but at least you don’t have to hunt for somewhere. After Danielle route marched me across the park to the hotel where I make my wine tasting booking I was left to my own devises. After getting everything I needed for the day I headed out to the funicular for my trip up to montecatini alto. The incline was so steep that it would have been super difficult to walk up especially in this humidity. The views from the top were amazing and you could see for miles. After a couple of hours of looking about it was time for a pizza and a red wine. Tuna pizza - you can’t beat it. The wine wasn’t the best to begin with it got better as I went down the very large glass.
I went for a final walk around the alto and sat to take in the beautiful view the only downside was the bloody racket the tree critters constantly make.
I’ve got the funicular at 2:30 back down to Montecatini terme and made my way to the Aduo hotel to book my trip to Vinci and wine testing tour - I only made 1 detour and that was to get a bottle opener so I could have a cold one by the pool. After track into the shop and carrying three large bottles of water back to the shack, I was sweating like a pig there was only one thing for it, bikini on and in the pool to cool off. I have a confession, I filled my water bottle with birra moretti and nobody knew, they would be so jealous as the hotel bar is 2 buildings away from the swimming pool so pretty much anything goes, there is no contraband.

I have had a massive win today no, not the mother load on the premium bonds, I have discovered that the fridge in my room is plugged into an adapter and my travel adapter fits into it so I can now use my kettle in the room for morning coffees. Little things …..
Dinner was shite tonight and the dining room was full of sweaty people. We all felt like sweaty messes tonight so it was reasonably early to bed as it is an early start tomorrow.
Here is some detail I copied if you are interested in the culture of the area. Montecatini Terme is a town in Tuscany, Italy, known for the art nouveau Parco delle Terme spa complex. Works by Joan Miró and Claes Oldenburg hang in the MO.C.A. (Montecatini Contemporary Art), located on the first floor of the Town Hall. A funicular climbs to Montecatini Alto village, home to the Torre dell’Orologio, a medieval clock tower, plus the Romanesque church of Santa Maria a Ripa and sweeping views.
While in Montecatini Terme you must visit Terme Tettucio and drink some of the famous thermal water. If drinking the water is not your thing you can still enjoy the art and architecture of the amazing Terme Tettucio building.
Perhaps the most enjoyable way for young and old alike to arrive at Montecatini Alto is by the funicular (Funicolare di Montecatini in Italian). The two iconic red cable carriages climb the steep hill up to Montecatini Alto and run regularly through most of the year. Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Montecatini Terme.
Food lovers must try the famous Cialde di Montecatini from Bargilli. The Bargilli family have been making the wafer biscuit since 1936. Delicious with Italian gelato or sweet Vin Santo wine. Presented in a beautiful tin, Cialde di Montecatini also makes a great gift for friends and family.
