Jabiru, Northern Territory, Australia
Reasonably uneventful 3hr drive to Jabiru (main town of Kakadu), except a beautiful blue winged Kookaburra flew into the front of the car, couldn't believe it... We felt horrible :(

Arrived at the Bowali Visitors Centre to pick up our permits and find out which areas were open . Unfortunately most of the places we wanted to visit were still closed due to crocs. We are about 2 weeks ahead of the crowds which is great because we aren't jammed in like sardines. However, we are just that little bit too early coming out of the wet season for all the crocs to have been managed.

We get back to the car park and Mark notices something at the front of the car... It was the Kookaburra... Still alive but not looking good, we picked him up and took him to the Ranger at the Centre who told us he would get a wildlife carer to take a look at him.

Booked into the park and got the van sorted then headed to the pool for the rest of the arvo. Pre-dinner drinks with the Butlers who we had met back at Erldunda.

We took a ride into town for a look then back for lunch and a swim. Headed off around 4:00pm to check out the Aboriginal Rock Art at Ubirr and to watch the sunset.

This place is a must if you ever get up here. Beautiful rock formations and extremely well preserved paintings... And then there's the view... WOW absolutely breathtaking views of Arnhem Land.

On our last day we called back into the Visitors Centre to see if any other swimming spots were now open and to see how the Kookaburra was doing, unfortunately he had a broken neck and was put down :( :( :(

Took the 1.5hr drive out to Yurmikmik and ventured out to Boulder Creek to find some croc free water. Mark had a soak then we headed home.

Popped on a roast dinner and had an early night.

Nice one, just joined this. Great pics. Did you have pre dinner drinks before lunch??!!! I remember driving back from Cairns and a big bat flew into our windscreen and smashed, was pitch black at nighttime, gave us a huge shock. I'm not in love with bats though.

No pre dinner drinks turned into post dinner drinks except without the dinner in between!!!! Man that bat must have hit hard to break your windscreen :(

Poor Kooka... Luvie bought a stuffed one to sit on our bed with our Pelican... cause that one was pretty stuffed too after hitting the bull bar :(
