Whale Song

Dampier Peninsula, Western Australia, Australia
13/6/2015 - 1 night Whale Song Cafe and Campground ($20p/p)

We were up early and dropped the caravan off at the storage facility about 8 .30. Then it was time to hit the dirt with the car packed to the rafters with everything we needed for "roughing it" over the next 3 days.

We let the tyres down and got the first 80km + of red dirt under our belts then 100kms of bitumen only find another 33kms of really shit dirt road leading us to Pender Bay where Whale Song is located.

Anyway…. We made it in with some good humor left. We were the only one's there at this stage so had the choice of 8 sites. We set up the tent then took a drive into Middle Lagoon, which was only 10 minutes down the road for an afternoon swim.

Middle Lagoon had great swimming and great views if you had one of the sites on the cliff top but we were glad we had chosen the smaller and more secluded Whale Song.

Back at camp we had dinner and a few drinks watching the sun go down and enjoyed our first fire… BLISS!

I was up about 5am and got some great photos of sunrise, then it was a quick pack up and coffee and a fresh green juice from the Café.

The Café also had a few bit and pieces for sale and we bought a beautiful Nautilus Shell; they have only found two on the beach in the last 15 years of living there!

This really is a gorgeous place to stay… the facilities are basic but lovely and quaint, and Jacinta the lady who runs the place is salt of the earth.
