Barn Hill, Western Australia, Australia
16/6/2015 - 20/6/2015 5 Nights - Barn Hill Station Stay ($32.0 p/n)

We arrived at Barn Hill Station around 2pm after picking up the van and doing a bit of a restock and were given a great site with great views .

We were close to the youngest ones there and it was a bit like a retirement village with group activities, BBQ nights, roast dinners, Sunday Market and of course the lawn bowls tournament.

I had read a few reviews on Trip Advisor on the drive there so we knew what to expect. It amazes me what some people complain about in their reviews… one guy complained that he was told it was 9km of dirt road in when in actual fact it was 10km and he was pissed off that he had open 3 gates! Helllllooooo you are staying on a cattle farm!

Anyway, the first afternoon we virtually spent unpacking and repacking all the camping gear and setting up.

We played lawn bowls each day, which was a lot of fun especially when I took out the decider match on the third day. The rest of the time was spent at the beach or chatting to a few people that are camped there for a few months .

We met Gary who now lives in Mooloolaba but originally from Mentone. Robyn and Steve who work at the office during their stay and Kim and Kerry. All lovely people who made us feel very welcome and included.

Friday's at 5pm everyone is welcome to join in and play this dice game called Left, Right, Centre. I had planned to wander over but was held up helping a lady with her computer. Gary suggested he and Kerry and Kim (who actually make the dice) come over after dinner for a game.

Well what a cracker of a game… supposedly it is only played at Barn Hill so we bought 2 sets of dice, so it will be making its way back to Parkdale. (I have since found out that my sister has recently played it in Cairns!)

On our last night Mark was doing some work on the car when a lady comes up to him and says "I’ve met you before"… turns out we had stayed at Jan and Glenn’s Villa and had had dinner with them on Nusa Lembongan a few years back. It’s a shame they were heading in the opposite direction to us, as they are a lovely couple.

This place definitely grew on us, we had originally booked for 3 nights then ended up staying 5, and probably would have stayed another had there not been someone coming in on our site. It was nice to have a few days of doing and seeing absolutely nothing!
